Busy bee Halloween week

Busy bee kids knocked at the door of the haunted house.
Guess what was waiting for them inside.
It said peek a boo behind the door.
So, they opened the window and found a ghost, a Jack-o- lantern, a witch and a black cat behind the windows.

We were already happy to see candy flashcards with that excitement.
We prepared our Trick or Treat bags.
We made Jack-o-lantern by painting paper plates with orange paint and also put eyes, a nose and a mouth on it.
We stick our jack-o-lantern on one side of our candy bag.
On the other side, we made foot print ghosts.
We couldn't stop smiling when we were making the footprints as it was tickling us a lot.

We pretended to be different Halloween characters and entered inside a house which we used as a haunted house for our dramatic play. We took turns for the dramatic play. Two of our friends were inside, and one of us was knocking at the door. Our friends opened the door and all of us were giggling.

K5 insight

Welcome to an insight into the class life of K5’s Halloween week!

Halloween is a real fun week for K5, we get to go in depth with the spooks and scares as we farewell the harvesting season!
Werewolves, vampires and ghosts are always fun to learn about but the question I had for myself was how to incorporate even more ghoulish shenanigans when teaching math!
The answer came swiftly!
In term 2, one of the teaching goals for our K5 students to solve word problems up to the sum of 20. Well, it was here the children could continue achieving solutions to mathematical word problems with the theme of Halloween!

Here are some examples I used with the children:

“There are SIX zombies walking down the city street.
They attack NINE people but TWO people run away. How many zombies are there now?”

“FOURTEEN bats are flying past the moon. EIGHT bats turn into vampires so they can eat dinner. How many bats keep flying?

“A mummy is wrapping new bandages on its body.
It has used FIVE bundles of bandages but needs to buy SEVEN more bundles. How many bundles did the mummy use?

The K5 children were fully alert and scrambled to be among the first to give a solution to these fun Halloween word problems which ignited their imagination, generating laughs and enthusiasm.
It sure beats counting apples or oranges on a tree!
