I want to be

We played Bingo to learn what tools each worker uses. While playing the game, we heard a conversation like “Police officers use a dog?” “What is X-ray?” The students had a lot of fun finding out some new information about each worker.

We also played with the funny cut outs and enjoyed pretending to be a firefighter, a nurse, a singer, etc.

After we took a trip to Kidzania, the students discussed what they would want to be in the future and made their self-portraits. As you can see, their cutting skill has been improved!

K4 insight Shapes and Patterns

Shapes and Patterns

This term K4 have been exploring the four basic shapes circle, rectangle, square and triangle. We learned their names and describing their attributes. To enforce our shapes knowledge we made four different man-like figures using colored paper with one shape in different sizes. We enjoyed it a lot as our creations turned out so different.

At the concert we were performing an African dance and a play that was based on the West African story, The Lazy Townspeople. For our costumes we used African patterns as inspiration. The patterns contain many geometric shapes. We learned to recognize the basic shapes in the patterns. We used stamps to create patterns. In teams we worked to print the patterns on our costumes; one would put paint on the stamps, while the other printed on the fabric. We just couldn’t get enough of this technique. Everyone was eager to help out someone who still needed to print on his/her fabric. The result was quite stunning. We looked great on stage.

K5 insight

Welcome to an insight into the class life of K5’s Winter week!

Back in winter week, K5 had a small introduction to acrostic prose. An acrostic is a form of writing in which the first letter of each line spells out a word or message.

In this case, K5 were asked to think of words that bring meaning to the feeling of winter, using letters from the word ‘winter’…

So let’s see what they came up with…
W
I
N
T
E
R
… It proved to be a little tricky for them, so I changed the rules so that they could use words that have those letters from WINTER letters in any place. This is what they came up with…

snoW
Ice
New Year
ChrisTmas
dEcember
Reindeer

I then opened their minds to wonder when I explained that they can do this activity with any topic! Quickly they wanted to try the word SPRING. It came together much more quickly!

Sunny
Pink
Rabbit
raInbow
Nest
Green
Can you try to make your own acrostic poem?
